Jason McKinnon of Electric Aura Projects

Jason’s career began in Australia where he worked as a lighting director for Australia’s largest TV network GTV-9. It was there he honed his skills on a variety of television shows such as Who Wants to be a Millionaire, The Price is Right, Starstruck, and a number of sporting events from Cricket to the Formula One Grand Prix. A career highlight came in 2000 when he was assigned the role of console programmer and operator for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies for the Sydney 2000 Summer Olympic Games.

After moving to Vancouver in 2001, Jason joined Electric Aura to collaborate with Rob Sondergaard to design a scene in for the feature film Catwoman. His Olympic experience was repeated in 2010 when he provided lighting design for the outdoor Cauldron for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Opening Ceremony as well as the lighting director for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies for the 2010 Paralympic Games.

Jason regularly consults on feature films for lighting design and for the use of video projection and media servers to create innovative effects. The evolution of new technologies has established Jason as a visionary and forerunner in the integration of lighting and video to achieve previously unobtainable results.
