Robert Sondergaard
Robert began his professional career in 1992 after completing the Stagecraft Program and Electrics Internship at the Banff Centre for the Arts. He moved to Vancouver to take a Production Assistant position with Ballet BC, with whom he toured North America extensively. When he was not on the road, Robert worked with numerous small theatre companies and festivals in Vancouver.
In 1994 he was hired as one of the inaugural employees of Christie Lites (Vancouver) and stayed on with them until 2002. While there, Robert rose through the ranks from Shop Manager to Rentals Manager and was involved with many notable projects including: Production Electrician for the XI International Conference on AIDS; Broadcast Lighting Coordinator for the 1997 APEC Summit; and Lighting Coordinator for the Jaguar XJ-6 Launch. Some of his lighting design credits during this time include: Volkswagen Golf Launch in Tokyo, Japan; Amway Japan Conference in Honolulu, Hawaii; CFL Outstanding Player Awards for the years 1996-2000; Fire in the Night and Cirque Pop at the Pacific National Exhibition; and Color Jam and Bionicle Jam at the Legoland California Theme Park.
In 2002, Robert left Christie Lites to form his own company, Electric Aura Lighting Design, Inc where he continues to design for Theatre, Dance, Music, and Corporate Events. Some of his high-profile lighting design credits include the Opening & Closing Ceremonies for the 2007 Canada Winter Games, the Rankin Family Canadian Tour, the 21st Annual Gemini Awards, the Opening & Closing Ceremonies for United Nations World Urban Forum, the 2006 Poker Player of the Year Awards, Imagine 2010 – Launch of the Vancouver 2010 Olympics emblem, the 2003 World Weightlifting Championships, and the Erina Achievers Seminar for which he received a nomination for Best Use of Lighting by Special Events Magazine in 2004.
