Test driving the grandMA3

In an effort to make the most of the Covid lockdown, we’ve been spending time learning the new grandMA3. Over the past few weeks we went through the on line courses offered by MA Lighting and ACT Lighting and were pleasantly surprised by how much the software has improved (1.4.2.1). We borrowed a grandMA3 Compact from Christie Lites to do some hands on training in our warehouse with real lights and got our experience level up enough to feel confident enough to take it out on a show.

Over the weekend we lit up the new Arts Umbrella facility on Granville Island as part of a video shoot commemorating its opening. One of the key new features of the MA3 is the ability to bring your 3d model into the show file as part of a MVR import, and this allowed us to program the show during daylight when we couldn’t see the output of the lights on the building. This is definitely a new layer to our workflow, which I’m sure will prove invaluable as we move forward.
